An annual exam is another opportunity to screen and discuss new health problems or concerns. The general health checkup usually includes a breast exam and Pap Smear.

The Pap Test or Pap Smear is a screening of the cervix that helps detect pre-cancerous and cancerous activity of the female reproductive system. We inform you promptly of the results and if necessary we provide counseling and immediate intervention.

Family planning encompasses a broad range of activities, including screening for counseling for sexual education, prevention and management of STDs (Sexually Transmitted Diseases).

Preconception Counseling encompasses a meeting prior to becoming pregnant, which generally includes a comprehensive risk assessment for potential complications, as well as efforts to mitigate existing risks, such as increasing folic acid intake, alcohol consumption reduction, smoking cessation, and awareness of medications that can compromise fetal development.

An infertility evaluation is a comprehensive assessment of fertility factors, including complete sexual histories of both partners. The evaluation may include semen analysis (sperm count and movement), ovulation detection, ultrasound ovary examination, and, if necessary, advanced procedures including hysterosalpingogram and laparoscopy.

Contraception counseling includes assessment of general reproductive health (including age, diet, and adverse factors like smoking or alcohol consumption) and determination of viable contraception methods. Sterilization counseling is an opportunity to discuss permanent sterilization and learn of available methods appropriate to your health, lifestyle and future plans.

Urogynecology is the study, diagnosis and treatment of female urinary incontinence and pelvic floor disorders. Both are remarkably common problems, but women are often reluctant to seek help due to social stigmas surrounding the disorders. We are equipped to address this and other similar concerns and provide appropriate education and comprehensive intervention.

Thorough screening is employed to detect a variety of STDs, including HIV/AIDS, chlamydia, gonorrhea, syphilis, genital herpes (HSV), genital warts, human papilloma virus (HPV), molluscum, scabies and vaginitis. If an STD is detected, we’ll recommend appropriate treatment based on your health, lifestyle and the severity of the disease.

A variety of conditions can contribute to abnormal menstrual bleeding, including irregular periods, missing multiple concurrent periods, periods lasting longer than seven days, periods accompanied by pain, cramping, nausea or vomiting, and bleeding or spotting between periods, after menopause or following sexual activity. If detected, we’ll recommend a comprehensive treatment plan appropriate to your health and symptoms.

Pelvic and/or vaginal infections can cause moderate to severe discomfort, and can be symptomatic of larger problems. We can employ a variety of detection methods, including blood tests, vaginal swabs/cultures and secretion analysis.

Pelvic organ prolapse, a type of pelvic floor disorder, affects many women (estimates suggest as many as one-third of all women experience prolapse or a similar condition during their lifetime). We can employ a number of methods to detect prolapse, including a pelvic exam, CT scan, MRI scan or ultrasound.

Young women often have special needs and concerns about their changing bodies. We specialize in providing attentive reassurance to young patients in an atmosphere conducive to speaking comfortably about their health.
